Anthem to Acquire FL Medicare Advantage Organization HealthSun
Anthem’s latest acquisition adds 40,000 health plan members that receive care under the Medicare Advantage program.

By - Anthem entered into an agreement to acquire Florida-based HealthSun, a payer and integrated health system that provides care and coverage to 40,000 Medicare Advantage beneficiaries, the payer announced in a press release.
Leaders at Anthem see the acquisition of HealthSun as a prime opportunity to further expand their care networks, since HealthSun is one of the fastest growing health networks in Florida.
“Anthem is committed to identifying opportunities for growth that will enable us to advance our goal of increasing access to healthcare for all consumers, including those who are most vulnerable,” said Joseph R. Swedish, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Anthem.
HealthSun provides an integrated healthcare delivery with Medicare Advantage plans in the Miami-Dade and Broward counties of South Florida.
The HealthSun network is rated by CMS as a 4.5 star organization for the 2017 and 2018 reimbursement years, and will provide Anthem with 19 primary and speciality care centers as well as a supplemental network of health centers that are not directly affiliated with HealthSun.
A group of investors led by Summit Partners closed the acquisition for Anthem. Summit expects the deal to be finalized by the end of the year pending approval from state and federal authorities.
For Anthem, the acquisition will also support the payer’s growth in the Medicare Advantage market and promote the payer’s use of value-based care models.
“The acquisition of HealthSun, which offers a unique integrated care delivery model serving mainly dual-eligible (Medicare and Medicaid) members, fits well with our plans for continued growth in the Medicare Advantage and dual-eligible populations,” said Swedish.
