The AHIP Board of Directors has appointed Matt Eyles as the organization’s new President and CEO to replace Marilyn Tavenner after she retires on June 1st, 2018.

Eyles was elected unanimously as Tavenner’s successor.  In his new role, Eyles will work to further AHIP’s goals surrounding healthcare reform advocacy, prescription drug affordability, and employer-sponsored insurance market improvements. AHIP selected Eyles based on his work as Executive Vice President and his time as the organization’s Chief Operating Officer.

“It is an honor to represent insurance providers and the members they serve,” Eyles said.

“We will continue to focus on solutions that deliver more affordable choices and higher quality for every American,” he continued. “It’s also an honor to have worked with and learned from Marilyn. For more than 40 years, she has driven important changes that have directly improved the lives of patients, consumers, and hardworking taxpayers.”

Tavenner, who served as CMS Administrator during the Obama Administration, expressed confidence that Eyles will continue to direct AHIP as a top leader in the payer industry.

“Matt is one of the most experienced leaders in Washington,” Tavenner said.

“We have partnered together on real solutions that allow health insurance providers to better serve the millions of Americans they work for every day,” she added. “We worked closely with the Board to plan an effective transition to ensure that under Matt’s leadership, AHIP will continue to be the industry leader for years to come.”

Leaders at AHIP believe that Eyles will follow in Tavenner’s steps and leverage his expertise to create positive industry changes in a turbulent political climate.

“Marilyn’s track record of service and success is a model for every leader,” said Bernard J. Tyson, AHIP Board Chair and Chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente.

“She has delivered real results for AHIP and our industry in a time of extraordinary change and uncertainty. Matt will build on our shared success—and the AHIP Board is confident in him, his team, and his leadership.”
