Humana Plans to Acquire Medicaid Managed Care Organization
The acquisition of Medicaid managed care organization, Inclusa, will ramp up the number of Medicaid recipients that Humana serves.

By - Humana has announced its plan to acquire all of the assets of Inclusa; a Wisconsin-based Medicaid managed care organization.
Inclusa provides long-term care coverage to over 16,000 older adults and adults with disabilities in Wisconsin's Family Care program.
Over the past 20 years, the Medicaid managed care organization has teamed up with many local healthcare providers and community resources to connect members with the needed support and services.
As of now, Inclusa works with more than 6,000 service providers in nearly 40 service categories. The Medicaid managed care organization is also contracted with the State of Wisconsin and permitted through the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance to deliver family Care services in 68 out of 72 Wisconsin counties.
“For decades, Humana has been focused on improving the health and wellbeing of the people of Wisconsin, and we are pleased to expand both our geographic presence and the scope of services we can offer through the acquisition of Inclusa,” John Barger, Humana Medicaid President, said in a public statement.
“The long-term care services delivered by Inclusa and their contracted providers under Wisconsin’s Family Care program provide important assistance for eligible individuals that value their member-centered care model,” Barger continued. “We look forward to combining Inclusa’s and Humana’s expertise and capabilities to grow the Inclusa business and help even more people get the long-term care they need.”
As Medicaid managed care organization enrollments increase, Humana has used this acquisition to increase Medicaid services in Wisconsin.
The payer has been exploring options to increase the number of Medicaid recipients over the last several years, totaling approximately 1 million Medicaid members across five states.

In 2021, the payer announced it would acquire the rest of the Kindred at Home program for $8.1 billion. Until its acquisition, Humana had held a minority stake in the company since 2018. At the time of its purchase, Kindred at Home had 43,000 caregivers and a reach of over 550,000 patients across most of the US.
To further extend its reach in home healthcare, Humana brought its onehome value-based home care model to Virginia.

While considering the needs of patients, providers, hospitals, and health plans, onehome coordinates a range of post-acute needs, including infusion care, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and durable medical equipment.
